Men’s Foot Health Awareness

June is Men’s Health Month, and the doctors here at Alta Ridge Foot Specialists want to bring your attention to an often-overlooked part of the body – your feet. Did you know that your feet can significantly affect your health and well-being? A simple injury can leave you sidelined from your everyday run, affecting other parts of your body. There are conditions like diabetes that directly impact the health of your feet. Here are some of our top tips for keeping your feet healthy year-round!
Talk To Your Podiatrist
Are your feet particularly red and swollen? Don’t ignore it! Alert your podiatrist to any concerning symptoms, including other signs of infection. Increasing pain, swelling, and discharge are reasons to call your podiatrist. If you think you have a broken bone, don’t hesitate to seek medical help.
Don’t Rush Healing
If you’ve recently experienced an injury to your foot or ankle, allow your body time to rest and recover before getting back into the game. We recommend scheduling a follow-up appointment with your podiatrist. Rushing back to the field, the court, or the track can lead to a re-injury. Wait until you feel ready to return — and when you have the doctor’s approval.
Look At Your Feet
Are you paying attention to your feet and ankles? Taking notes of new pain or symptoms can be one of the first ways to detect problems early. For patients with diabetes, timing is a big concern. A fresh wound can become infected without prompt attention. Discolored or brittle toenails can signal a toenail injury or a fungal toenail. Swollen feet may alert you to the early signs of heart disease.
Here at Alta Ridge Foot Specialists, we care deeply about our patients. Dr. W. Aaron Broyles, Dr. Robert L. Van Brederode, Dr. Thomas Verla, and the rest of our staff at our Mars Hill, Spruce Pine, and Boone, NC, offices are here to help you with any of your foot concerns.
