23 Oct Getting Rid of Painful Plantar Warts
Warts on the feet, or plantar warts, can be particularly annoying and painful, especially for the larger plantar warts that grow on the bottom of the foot hidden under thick skin. Since contact with human papillomavirus (HPV) causes warts, eradicating the virus will eliminate warts. It is easier said than done since warts tend to be stubborn to treatment and come back.
The doctors here at Alta Ridge Foot Specialists recommend putting down the at-home treatments and drugstore finds and, instead, give your podiatrist a call for help. We’re here to adequately treat your warts and prevent them from returning.
3 Ways to Treat and Prevent Plantar Warts
Cryotherapy
Liquid nitrogen therapy is used to freeze and remove difficult plantar warts on the bottom of the foot. These warts, often hidden by thick skin, must be removed first. See your foot doctor to avoid complications like unnecessary cuts and bleeding.
Medication
The HPV (human papillomavirus) that causes warts is quite common, which makes it very easy to catch. You can eradicate them with topical and oral medications so you can attack warts from the inside and outside at the same time.
Acid peeling
Extra strong acid peels away the wart a little at a time and is used with cryotherapy for fast results.
Avoid Contact
You can help prevent warts by keeping your feet clean and protected from the virus that causes warts. This means wearing appropriate foot protection, like close-toed shoes or flip-flops on public surfaces like shower and locker room areas. Ensure that your nail salon follows proper procedures for sanitization.
