Foot Care Tips for World Health Day

26 Apr Foot Care Tips for World Health Day

World Health Day is a global health awareness day celebrated on April 7th every year, under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as other related organizations. Many forget about the importance of their feet when it comes to health, so this is a great time to visit foot care tips to ensure your feet stay healthy and happy.

We all know keeping in good health requires effort, whether it is through regular exercise or a healthy diet. The same goes for your feet. Regular checkups with your podiatrist are a good idea. They can detect and diagnose any issues regarding your feet. Still, there are certain things you can do to maintain healthy feet, try these tips:

  • Trim your nails– keep your nails neatly trimmed. Try to cut your nails straight across with a good nail trimmer and then use a file to get rid of edges. Ingrown toenails can be painful. They can cause cuts and get infected. Thick or discolored toenails should be looked at by a doctor and may be a sign of a fungal infection.
  • Dry your feet – be sure you dry your feet after a shower. Dampness can be a breeding ground for bacteria and may lead to fungal infections.
  • Check your feet daily – regularly inspect your feet for bunions, calluses, corns, blisters, redness, swelling, or other unusual changes in your feet.
  • Wear properly fitted footwear– this is essential for good foot health. You may want to ask your podiatrist about orthotics. These are specially designed inserts that fusion and support your specific foot shape.
  • Keep your feet soft – use a good moisturizer. You can find lotions to apply daily at many stores.
  • Exercise – find a regimen to keep the blood flowing in your feet. You can walk, run, play basketball, or anything else, as long as it gets your blood moving.
  • Maintain your sugar levels – if you have diabetes, you must keep an eye on your sugar level.
  • Dont ignore foot pain – pain or discomfort is a sign that something is wrong. Don’t ignore the pain, contact a specialist right away.
