Bunions are a frequently encountered foot problem. The bunion is caused by heredity, flat feet, arthritis, trauma, and neuromuscular conditions. Usually the bunion is aggravated by tighter shoes and activity.
Heel pain is one of the most common types of foot pain. Children can develop pain due to inflammation of the heel growth plate (see Children’s Foot Problems).
Hammertoes are often noticed as one develops corns and calluses on their toes. The corn/callus is actually caused by an underlying joint contracture of the toe.

Warts can affect all individuals, but seem to be most prevalent in children and teens. A wart is caused by a virus that infects the skin.
There are many causes of nerve pain in the foot. Some cases are simple, such as a shoe that is too tight impinging on a nerve leading to pain. Other instances are more complex,
Fungus invades our toenails as microtrauma from shoes damages the toenails. Fungus is common throughout our environment, but especially in damp places like our shoes and showers.
